History of the Hospital

Kerman’s first governmental and major hospital is Shahid Bahonar Hospital. The building is situated in Vali-e-Asr cross-roads, Gharani street. It was built by the efforts made by Dr. Sayed Ali Akbar Mir  Hosseini Vakili and Mirza Mahmoud Saam Zadeh. The hospital was founded in 1328, with Dr. Vakili as the hospital’s president and 80 beds in charge. Gradually, the hospital was improved by the help of sympathetic masters such as Dr. Habibollah Rashid Farokhi, Dr. Ali Saam Zadeh, Dr. Mahdi Bazargan, departed Dr. Ali Akbar Niknafs, Haj Habibollah Ashrafi. Due to the facts that the structure of the hospital was too old, and that the city of Kerman had been in severe need of the service provided, the expansion phase of the new hospital was begun in the same site, containing 22000 m2 floor area, and it was established in July 2009 by the time’s minister of health, Dr. Namaki.

Shahid Bahonar Hospital, allied to Kerman’s Medical University, includes an area of 55000 m2 at the heart of the city with various educational and medical departments. It welcomes the city’s and province’s patients. It also admits patients who suffer from complex issues referred from other private and public clinical centers. With 357 beds, 1400 professional medical staff, containing 33 specialists and clinical fellowships, 79 specialist fellowships, nurses and state-of-the-art equipment, the hospital serves patients, educates students, and carries out preventive and research design. The hospital employs a staff of more than 2000 people in both medical and non-medical fields.

The hospital includes a primary examination section (Triage), 2 Emergency sections (Chronic1 & 2), 14 admission wards in 6 categories of orthopedic, a urology, a neurosurgery, a general surgery, anesthesia, emergency medication, paraclinical and 4 general wards.

Around 24000 admissions and 18000 surgeries are carried out in this hospital every year.
